Candeling and hatching diary.

We had a german shepard that killed, I tried very hard to train this dog, because we did not want to get rid of it. I walked it in the coops with me, let the chickens jump on him etc, as soon as my back was turned. BOOOM, he was at them.

So we had no choice, the dog WENT. had to get rid of him. Even though we were sad about it, my chickens came FIRST!!!
I had a female Rottweiler that was horrible with my horses. If she was lose day and night she would be chasing and biting their hocks and frothing at the mouth. I finally found her a home where their was no farm animals to taunt her and to this day she is a happy dog with another family.

aweeee that's sweet. I take it she's not to far that you can check on her?

Yep only about a half hr away, not too bad. Lives in a very small town with a small family and is spoiled to death. She was a good dog in any other respect, just wanted to herd horses which is what Rottweilers where originally bred for so you can't blame the dog for it.

I have been majorly slacking in getting photos of the new chicks to share. I had 7 hatch, the one I broke on accident and another shrunk wrapped for no reason that I know as the humidity was 65%, I wanted to intervene on the one and help it out but got too busy with other things I just left it alone, it was alive yesterday am but had died sometime thru the day, I inspected and the yoke was fully absorbed so no clue as to why it didn't pip. I figured I have enough in the bators and it was just a bym I didn't have to be too worried if I did lose it. Although losing any is hard. So final count is 2 EE, 1 SS, 4 BLRW. I have to lock down 10 tomorrow one is which is my twin SS which I'm very excited it it makes it. So far candling has shown 2 live chicks kicking around. Then for the HAL I have about 70 to hatch, that will be a stressful hatch for sure as I've never hatched that many at one time before.

Sorry for all of you who had bad hatches and hope your next ones are more successful!! I know it's hard every time you lose them and it's very disheartening.Try not to let it make you give up and just rethink your process and work to get it better. It's hard but once you keep trying and things go well it's much more uplifting.

Horribly sad beyond belief. A bunch of babies started to unzip last night. Everything looked great so I went to bed. My dog got curious and sniffed the incubators hearing the noises knocking the lid sideways. I just woke up this morning and found a bunch of the chicks dried out, they didn't make it through the hatch.

****** beyond belief. I'm done hatching eggs.

OH NO, YOUR KIDDING. OMG< THAT"S HORRIBLE.

Good advice, on the hatching. Because I was ready to give up this weekend. I'm trying to hatch out call ducks and lately I have been struggling.. GRRRRR
