Candeling and hatching diary.

Day way past due, and we have 100% internal pips as of this evening (just candled for the day). All are rocking, and there's a LOT of chirping!!!!!!!

Giddy, I'm about to have lots of new babies!

O.k., I posted earlier about this but seeing all the air cell pics is making me nervous... lock down is tomorrow and I don't see any air cells... completely solid/ dark inside...is that normal? I did the dry hatch method.

Just wanted to give everyone an update looks like I will be in Colorado for a while. My Foster Dad is very ill he had a blood order that they were treating that has sense turned into leukemia it was affecting his lungs and his blood marrow but they had gotten it under control but unfortuantly the treatment did not keep it out of his brain and he now has a lesion on his brain. We found all this out because he fell on tuesday he was not found right away when he fell right away and as a result aspirated and has pneumonia now. We are now waiting for the pneumonia to clear up so that he can be taken off the respirator after he is taken off the respirator we will then decide whether or not to start radiation on the lesion. This is a very stressful time I am not sure what the future holds all I can do is sit and wait and pray.  On a different note the 100 eggs I locked down before I left on wed. are ow hatching my daughter is taking excellent care of them and so far there are 37 healthy chicks there were three chicks that were weak when I left from the previous hatch and unfortuantly they did pass away but I know that we can not save them all. TY for all you kind words, thoughts and prayers and I will keep you posted.

OMG, soo sorry to hear that, I feel a little psycho right now. I mean I feel horrible bad for you about your foster dad and yet extremely happy because even though you are not there your having a Great hatching so far...

So I guess the best thing I can say is WISHING YOU GOOD LUCK ON BOTH OF YOUR PROBLEMS!!!

Your not seeing any air cells on any of the eggs?? How many eggs are we talking. Take one out and smell it, just to be absolutely sure it's not rotten and going to explode on you. If you can do it to all of them.. Perhaps it's the item your using to candle is why you can't see them, perhaps it's not bright enough..

Yay for the babies.

I do have sad news my dog killed all but one of my babies. The very last Ancona made it because it was still in the hatcher. The dog is now gone and the line duck is sleeping in dh's lap. But I have 2 ducks due Thursday and s goose that was set at the same time as the ducks. I also have 10/10 mixed color Polish developing on day 4!!

So sorry to hear this, I don't know what I'd do in this situation. Probably kill the dog or at the very least find it a new home. I'm very fortunate my 2 dogs(Bichon & Husky/Jack Russel Terrier) love the birds and enter all the coops at all times, watch over the chick and never once have I had a problem. If I had I feel it would be better for them to be at a home where they wouldn't be enticed.

I have 3 external pips this am Day 21, 1 EE and 2 BLRW so far. I accidentally dropped a BLRW lastnight candling but it only cracked the shell. I hope I didn't kill it, gah with my over excessive candling. Maybe some day I'll learn to have some self control, maybe not.

If your not seeing any air cells I'd be quite worried. Like earlier suggested are you using a bright enough candler? How far along are they?

Good luck with it--- I have candled and seen completely dark--- and later have had great chick hatch from that egg --- so just go ahead with it...sometimes you just never know.
