Candeling dark colored eggs(maran eggs)

Hi guys and gals,I have a maran and she lays chocolate eggs very dark too dark to candle is there any other ways to check fertility? Thanks-E

Welcome to BYC!
When I incubate Marans or other dark colored eggs, I candle them using a light source on both ends in a very dark room. You could for example use your Candler on the large end and then an iPhone flashlight or other small LED flashlight on the other end. I found this very useful. It may require an extra set of hands or you can do as @BirdsBeesTrees does and lay them on the floor.

My Marans eggs are medium-dark, not quite truly chocolate. I'm finding that the built-in candler on the NR 360 won't work on them but that my phone's flashlight will.
