I have three broodies which have been sitting on nests for 14, 13, and 7 days. I have never candled eggs before but would like to try. Is it OK? Best to do it at night? What should I see in the eggs?

Use a good flashlight in a dark room. Make a ring around it with your fingers, if that makes sesns, so that there isn't any light coming out around the edges. Rotate the egg until you find a place where it shows well.
Seven days: should be veining, possibly a dark spot in the middle. air cell on the round side (clear)
Thirteen and Fourteen: Should still have air cell, be very dark in the middle, and on pointy end clear with veins.
Good luck!
