Canker metronidazole/ronidazole?

The concern is that if the lesions are located only in the mouth, infectious protozoa could infect the outside of the tube while sliding it down the esophagus, then infecting the esophagus and perhaps the crop as well. If there were treatment going on, metronidazole or copper sulfate, it might not be an issue but something to consider.

But wouldn't said protozoa be swallowed in saliva?

Would it not infect the mouth first?
I'm confused... the bird has plaques in it mouth already, so anything that goes in the mouth (water, food, saliva) could carry whatever it is into the crop.

Ok, I see your point. Birds with lesions rarely eat and drink because they cant swallow. Sick birds rarely eat anyway.
