Go to the Internet Archive, select texts and when the text screen appears type in poultry. It helps to have a relatively fast connection and the free Adobe Acrobat Reader installed (PDF files retain illustrations and charts in their original format).

They have a heck of a lot of material that is out of copyright available and continue to add more. Sure, the 1903 American Standard of Perfection isn't perfect, but you can download it for free (also check out Benjamin Franklyn Kaupp's 1918 tome: Anatomy of the Domestic Fowl, and his Diseases of Poultry - show you how to build an operating table and produce general anesthetics, ether and chloroform, in your backyard).

Medications have improved, diseases are better understood, and now we do everything in color, but the essential info. is unchanged.

You have an excelent point whether you know it or not. The older information is very valuable since we are so dependent on modern technology. I would trust info from 75 or 100 years ago. It was a time when people had to learn things the hard way. I will check that site out, Thank You

debiraymond, I was just asking Hubby 5 minutes ago if we could buy a copy of Raising Chickens for dummies next time we see it, instead of waiting on the library

At least your library can order them for you. I live in a small town as well. when I asked the librarian for the APA book of standards she couldn't even find a copy to borrow. Our library does not carry any farming, poultry, canning or self-sufficient books at all. DD has been looking for a How to book on quilting that she can't find either.
