Can't Machine Quilt...Why Does Machine Skip?

wow, I didn't know they were that expensive. But you love to sew and and love to quilt...I know personally how much you love it, LOL. If it would make you happy than go for it!!

Well, Carrie, I can't sew, only quilt. I have no idea how to make anything other than a quilt. But, to me, that's art, not sewing. I'm going to try to find your painting in the art thread you posted, was just starting to look for it when you posted here. I have to save money for it and am trying to sell my finished quilted items to get the $$ to buy a new machine. I like my little Brother, don't get me wrong, it's great for piecing and has those decorative stitches if I am in the mood to use them, but I want to free motion a big quilt eventually and its 5.5" harp space is just really difficult for that.

I'm so happy to be talking to you again! You've known me longer than most folks here, I think.

ETA: WOW, just found your painting you posted! You are so talented! I want my husband to paint another of my birds after he did Ladyhawk's Lancelot and my Isaac. He does have a talent for it.

Thanks for compliment. You are right. Your quilting is an art. I really missed you.

. Hang in that new machine will happen

The manager/owner of Bless My Stitches quilt shop in Murphy, NC was pushing this one today when I stopped in to ask about the Janomes. Yeah, right. It's only about $4100, but hey, it has a table that comes with it! I'll wait for the pot of gold hidden on this property to show up somewhere. Sure do love that 18" throat but geez, my last car only cost $6900. I need to stay below $1000 and I think that's completely do-able.

I tried more on my little Brother machine today. I worked on just moving the needle w/o stopping. I got a better feel today and realized that some of the suddenly long stitches were probably more my fault than the machine's from becoming impatient and moving faster at that point than the machine was going. I had the speed control set to medium high but when I jacked it up even more, I did better. This thread is Gutermann cotton thread, which works much better than the Coats & Clark Egyptian cotton machine quilting thread I got at Hobby Lobby and will probably just use for piecing.

I see that the youtube teacher, Leah Day (who also owns chickens, yea!), uses Isacord Polyester thread for free motion and Aurifil polyester thread fpr piecing. exclusively. What is the benefit of using a poly thread over a cotton? Seems weird to use a poly thread with 100% cotton fabrics.
