Corporations are in business to make money.
The problem is, some corporations are in business to make money and will lie, cheat, steal, and kill to do it.

I will say it is about middle ways in the fortune 500. I also know they have moved machinery and shut down facilities for much less than cap and trade.
Wouldn't it be in the interest of the higher ups to spread this rumor if they thought cap & trade would force them to be more responsible? Wouldn't it be in their interest to try to get as many people on their side of the debate as possible?

Not in the ominous sense that you mean to convey here, necessarily, but there are a bunch of laws on the books that are supposed to keep us from killing, beating, raping, and stealing from each other.. That's a form of control and, frankly, it's welcomed. That's what they're supposed to do.
