Actually, for you to claim that I said that because it's wrong to murder, cap and trade should be accepted is a classic strawman argument. You literally couldn't have concocted a better example.

Just for the sake of clarity, a strawman is where you say something like "Oh, so you're saying...." to set up the strawman, and then proceed to knock the strawman down by attacking the words you just put in someone else's mouth..

Like you proceed to do...

If you want to debate, let's debate.

Let's debate on things we actually say to one another, though...not what we wish the other had said that would have made the debate easier for us.

I guess that you and I will have to agree to disagree on crap and trade and the definition of strawman argument. My main point is that more taxes and more government is just more grief for the common person. It's too bad that there isn't a cap on government growth. NO MORE TAXES!!! Corporations don't pay taxes. They just pass the cost on.

somebody finally realizes that I am a goof and will make fun of EVERYONE about ANYTHING including myself.

PS, I have a sister who is a midget/dwarf No, seriously. Do I crack short jokes? yup, just like she cracks redneck jokes to me. People as a society need to be less sensitive in general. I grew up in a very racially polarized area with an adopted sister who was 50/50. You either learn to fight, laugh or be jaded. I chose the first two in that situation and usually make light of anything in life. The only thing that really has me jaded is my X wife

No, Devil's Advocate is my job. I even have business cards that a friend made up for me that say so.

LOL, on this board, I come across as liberal. On another board with a more liberal bent, they are convinced I am a diehard conservative.

Guess I must be doing something right.

That which regulates is regulation.

As for C&T being taxes....the credits will be free. If a corporation goes over their credits, they'll have to buy more from a corporation which had extra.

So.......how is the government making money off this again?

Furthermore, if one company has to buy credits off another company and tries to pass the cost on to you, can't you just go buy from the company that sold the credits and was able to undercut the competition by lowering its prices as a result of selling the credits?

Question...

If all a company had to do was pass the tax on to the consumer, why would they care enough to launch big scare tactic campaigns to try and convince people that they were going to pass the tax on.. I mean, if it were so easy just to pass the taxes on, wouldn't they just pass the taxes on?

The reality is that each and every one of these corporations knows that if another corporation figures out a way to either keep from paying the tax or from passing it on to consumers, they won't, just so they can grab the comparative advantage and start stealing marketshare..

In other words, they don't want this to happen because they don't want to risk getting their throat cut by another cutthroat corporation when the rules of the game change a little bit.

As for big government...I seem to recall that there was an entire presidential campaign run somewhat recently on the idea of smaller government, yet when the smoke cleared, it had actually gotten bigger and nosier than it had ever been in the history of the United States of America.

That's just my recollection, though, peppered perhaps with an opinion or two.

What does that have to do with the current pack of loonies trying to make things even worse? We haven't had a decently run government for decades. Our government is (and has been for a while) nothing but a growing monster.

Even if that's true, the situation is still such that one thing goes up as another comes down.. Unless the electricity industry buys all the credits from the pink flamingo manufacturing industry or the people who make leopard print snuggies, I'm inclined to think it would probably work out in the wash.

I would imagine there were a lot of people who said that very thing when this nation decided to establish standing armies, yet -- if I'm not mistaken -- you're a Marine.

Nothing is always absolutely so.

Just pointing it out.. I guess I just found the way it all turned out to be extremely ironic, given how that particular election was based in large part on those acting upon the very sentiment you're expressing now.

That's all.

Just because somebody promised smaller government and didn't deliver it, doesn't mean that less government isn't a good idea. And, yes, defending our nation and maintining a fighting force is one of our government's basic duties. Controlling every aspect of our lives, over regulating, over spending and over taxing are not.

This thread is like beating a dead horse. I guess I'll stop feeding the trolls and go read more interesting chicken things.
