Raven's attack on the bandit coming after Terrick with a torch bought him a momentary distraction and he was able to land a solid blow on the arm of the shield wielding bandit. Terrick suspected he might have dislocated the bandit's shoulder, for he could no longer hold the shield high enough to protect himself. But there wasn't much time to celebrate the fact, for the torchbearer rejoined the assault against Terrick and he gave another step backwards, feeling his back hit the metal bars behind.

--

Col managed to get his hands around Pike's arm before the caravan guard could clamp down too tightly on his throat, but the earlier arrow wound left him without enough strength to pry Pike's arm off him completely. He didn't bother to answer Pike's question as he tried to push backwards, hoping to slam Pike's back into the cave wall.

--

The bandit who had struck Linden turned to face Raven and Maple, blocking their path. "Wheredayathink yer goin'? he sneered, brandishing his torch in an effort to back the pair back toward the cell Maple had just been freed from.

--

As Linden wrenched the weapon free from the bandit's hand, the man did his best to not give his larger opponent a chance to use it and pushed his shield up as quickly as he could, trying to connect it to the underside of Linden's chin.

Pushed by Col, Pike stumbled backwards into the cave wall, dragging the bandit with him. The impact left him slightly winded, but not enough to cause him to release his choke hold on Col's neck. If the bandit wouldn't willingly give up the location of the light stone, Pike resorted to simply killing-- or at least suffocating the bandit to an unconscious state --and then searching him himself. If the stone was in a location other than a pocket on the bandit, it didn't really matter whether or not Col told him where it was because he wouldn't be able to get to it anyways.

Having just stolen the sword, Linden saw but had no time to react to the bandit thrusting the shield upwards into his chin. It connected just below his chin bone and left a jagged cut that wasn't too far away from slicing a major artery in his neck. Knowing that such a large and bulky weapon wasn't very useful while he was lying on top of the bandit, Linden rolled sideways and off of the bandit's chest. He tried to scramble to his feet and gain the upper hand while the bandit was still lying down, but was hampered by the fresh and bloody wound on his backside.

Raven dodged the torch, lifting her dagger to keep him from bringing it too close to her. Thinking quickly she started speaking in elvish. She was reciting a poem, but to someone who didn't understand the language, it would sound like a spell. She hoped that she could bluff him into backing off enough to give her the advantage. If she could get enough distance she would be able to use her bow again She thought, then was reminded of the girl, by a slight shift in her hold. She had to get the young girl safe before she could help the men.

When Linden rose to his feet, the bandit with the shield scrambled up as well, but then hesitated, unsure if he was willing to engage Linden without an offensive weapon of his own. He seemed about to try it anyway, but as the elven woman started reciting something, his courage was shaken even further. "Back outta here!" He cried to his companions and he took a few steps back toward the narrow tunnel they'd entered through. The one with the torch joined him, blocking the exit while they nervously waited for the effects of Raven's "spell" to begin.

Meanhile, Col's struggles were slowly weakening.

--

Unfortunately for Terrick, the two engaged with him were too intent upon their mission to take him out of the fight to hear the order to back out of the cavern. Knowing he had to do something to turn the tide before one of them managed to land a crippling blow, he suddenly lunged to the left, focusing his attack upon the torchbearer. He slammed his shield against the man, sending him stumbling backwards, toward Linden. Seeing the torchbearer was off balance, Terrick took the opportunity bring his sword down and into the man's neck. The bandit looked momentarily surprised, but it was short lived, as he sank, lifeless, to the floor.

There was no time to celebrate. Terrick tried to turn, expecting an attack from the man with the shield, but the caravan guard was too slow and just as he began to pivot, felt the sharp bite of the bandit's sword slicing through his calf muscle. "Gah!" Terrick let out a pained cry as his leg suddenly refused to support his weight and he fell upon his knee.

Raven was distracted by Terrick's call and turned toward him. Seeing him down, she released the girl's hand and stepped over, slicing at the bandit's back. The blade of her dagger glinted strangely in the torchlight, it was not made of the steel men used, but of a material far older. It had been crafted from the metal taken from a fallen star.

(Yeah, it's like 'Sting' from lotr)

(Sorry for disappearing for two days... very busy on the farm right now!)

Still bracing himself against the wall behind him, Pike kept a firm grasp on Col even as the bandit's struggles got weaker. He didn't want to take any chances, and the sooner Col was out, the sooner he could recover the light stone and do what he could to help Terrick, Raven and Linden. From the middle of the tunnel he could see the struggle in front of the cage, and knew how outnumbered they were.

--

Linden held the sword up defensively, expecting the bandit to charge the moment he was on his feet. The strange elven language sounded foreign to his ears as the bandit backed off, and even he began feeling a little bit uncomfortable. Unlike Terrick and Pike, he didn't know Raven at all. For all he knew, she could very well be enchanting them all with something.

At the same time, he recognised Terrick's voice as his friend cried out in pain. His eyes sought out the man near the back of the cave, and he turned away from the retreating bandit and darted to the guard's side. While Raven dealt with the bandit, Linden knelt down beside his friend and examined the wound. "Jeez, man..." His brow furrowed in despair at the sight of Terrick's leg. "We gotta get something to stop the bleeding..." He patted himself down, but found nothing worth using as Mavis already had his jacket. In the bottom of the cage beside him he spotted another burlap sac which had been thrown in as Maple's bedding, and he used that to wrap tightly around Terrick's leg.

(No worries. I have had more than my fair share of disappearing for a few days! Also, you can decide if Col has the light stone or not. )

Col's grip on Pike's arm let loose, his struggles ceasing as he slipped into unconsciousness. Meanwhile, the two that had been spooked by Raven's "spell" where slowly backing out of the tunnel, still unaware Pike and Col on the tunnel floor only a few feet behind them.

"Leave it!" Terrick said through gritted teeth as Linden began wrapping his leg. "Help the girls first!"

Raven's dagger bit into the bandit's back, slicing across the shoulder of the arm supporting the shield. The man turned toward the elf and suddenly realized his companions had retreated, leaving him to face Linden, Terrick, & Raven alone. Even if two of them were injured and the third was only holding a dagger, he didn't like those odds. "Get back in here, NOW!" he hollered to them. He seemed to be having trouble raising his shield, but thrust his sword forward toward Raven.

Raven brought her dagger to meet the sword and tried to keep him from pushing her back into the girl.

With Col unconscious, the bandit's weight sank and became supported entirely by Pike. At that point he was sure that Col was either dead or unconscious, and let his body slump to the ground. For a moment he debated whether or not to search Col for the light stone, but surprisingly Linden, Raven and Terrick weren't doing to bad against the remaining bandits. He crouched down with haste beside Col's body and began rifling through the bandit's pockets. It took a couple of minutes, and he almost gave up, but as his patience was running thin he came across the strange object in one of Col's inner pockets. Finally... With the stone tucked safely in his own pocket, Pike stood up and faced the two bandits backing up towards him. "Hey, you going somewhere?" He called out nastily.

--

Linden hesitated beside Terrick, but knew that he did have to help Raven and Maple. "Okay, but hold this on there for me!" He grabbed the sword that he had stolen and rose to his feet behind the bandit which had began challenging Raven. Hoping the bandit would be too preoccupied with Raven, Linden swung the sword horizontally, aiming to slice across both of the man's upper legs.

The two men turned quickly at Pike's voice, one brandishing his torch in the caravan guard's direction while the other set his shield defensively. They looked at Pike, then past him, as if expecting to see more guards behind, but seeing none, they exchanged a quick glance and advanced toward Pike.

Meanwhile, the lone bandit trying to take on both Raven and Linden wasn't faring so well. Too late he saw Linden coming and wasn't able to turn in time. The blade torn across the back of his left leg and he stumbled forward, landing on his shield. Even in the dim light of the torch lying on the ground, threatening to go out, fear showed on the man's face as he realized his situation had just become dire. "Don't! Please!" he pleaded for his life.
