Raven paused and looked back to Luna "We have to get in and out before they wake for the day"

Pike looked sourly at Luna, tightening his grip on the crossbow. He refrained from retorting something rude back, but muttered a few choice words inaudible to her under his breath. In his opinion, Raven was a perfectly capable guide. There wasn't any need to bring the crazy girl along, she was just slowing them down. After a few moments he looked to Raven and in a much calmer voice then he felt asked, "Where is the main entrance from here?"

"Four of 'em, I think," Merek whispered to Col, counting the 4 figures barely illuminated by the moonlight. The two bandit guards had been half dozing on watch duty and now the small caravan party had made it practically to the entrance, cutting off their ability to warn the other bandits ahead of time. "Soon as two of 'em start down, we jump the other two," Merek continued, forming a quick plan as he very quietly drew his blade. Col followed suite, pleased with the idea of ruining the days of more caravan guards.

Terrick nodded his thanks to the elf for pointing out the entrance and he approached the large tree, positioning himself in the lead of the small party since he carried the shield. He moved slowly though, careful to set his feet down lightly until he reached the base of the tree. He was almost on top of the cave entrance before he could even see exactly where it was. "Ready?" he looked back at the others, then turned forward again and started down the narrow stairwell...

Luna looked around asthough she knew the guards were there then turned to Terrick. "I know the cave best. I'll go down first." She said then whistled to her hawks who came swooping down. "Guys. Stay out here and attack anyone who might interfear." Both hawks bobbed their heads then took off again.

Pike took up the rear position as the next most capable member of the team after Terrick. As Terrick and Luna descended the dark steps, he waited at the top with his crossbow pointed out at the trees in case anything came after them from behind. After letting Raven also go in front of him, he took several steps sideways towards the stairs and began walking down with his back to the wall so that he could see both down the tunnel towards Terrick and outside to warn them of a surprise attack.

Raven sat an arrow to her bow and turned so that she could put one hand to Pike's back so he wouldn't lose track of the steps as they decended

A torch on the wall about 10 feet from the entrance was burning low, but illuminated enough for Terrick to see at least the first section of the tunnel. "How far to the pit?" He asked Luna as she came down the stairs right behind him.

--

Merek nodded to Col and the two crept as quietly, but as quickly as they could toward the entrance. They were slower than Merek had hoped and the last of the party was already descending down the stairs. The two broke into a run to cover the short distance to the entrance. Vaguely, Merek heard a bird cry out and had only a moment to ponder the fact that hawks would not normally be active at night before he caught sight of Pike and his crossbow...

"Down that way and to the left. Dont count on it to be unguarded and dont make more trouble then you have to. I have to take care of something." Luna turned and left going the other way.

Both hawks caught sight of Merek and Col and shot down ward their beaks at the ready. Beao's beak hit Merek's head drawing blood as the bird re-gained altatude and flew off. Trystal did the same on Col.

Upon hearing the rapid advancement of footsteps, Pike whipped his head outside and aimed the crossbow at Merek. He was just about to squeeze the trigger when the hawks attacked the two bandits, and in the few seconds of time that the birds had given him he turned urgently to Raven. "Go with Terrick," he said, noticing that Luna had wandered off. "He will need a guide, I can hold these two off!"
