We have used it with no problems from day one since our brooder is an old guinea pig cage and not too large. They will be going on pine or aspen when we move them to the coop and expand the brooder size. We did cover it with paper towels for the first three days just to make sure they didn't eat it. By the time we took the towels out they knew the difference between bedding and food.
