The way I read the NC requirements is that the $10 chick fee is if you buy the chicks to resale. Or if you buy eggs to resell. Its considers a dealer and the fee is $10. Sounds like to me that you can raise and hatch your own and sell under the ratite form with no fee required. Am I correct?

This was my understanding, as well. I hope it's right - I've already sent off the application and marked it for the free ratite.

Sounds wonderful! I know I will enjoy myself again this time as I have at every one that you have held and more of my friends are coming to enjoy it also! We are excited, as usual! We will arrive early and SC will be well represented, as well as a few of my friends from GA!

I'll finally get to meet you Amy!! I'll be at my table but hope to be able to walk around a bit too! I am bringing my carrier and hoping to bring home 3-5 more ladies!

Hi Marsha, I hope you are doing well. I have talked at length with my State NPIP Tech about the forms and as I understand, the chick dealer is for buying and reselling chicks that you have bought from a hatchery or another NPIP Farm. The hatching egg dealer license is for both eggs that you buy from another farm or from eggs that you sell from your personal farm. You are right that you may sell chicks and adults from your flock with the Ratite Form.

I just completed my NPIP testing this morning. Silkies and Peas both were tested. Went smoothly. Cost was 10 cents per bird with a $5.00 minimum. See you at Chickenstock.

Congratulations! I'm glad things went well for you at testing. It takes a little time, but it's well worth the effort. I get mine every year in October.
I will have some BLRW Bantam chicks for you soon I hope. I have about 2 dozen in the incubator. Maybe I will trade a trio to you for some more silkies.
You will have to come back for a visit to see my Paint Silkies that I hatched from Shayna. They are so pretty!

I have about 100 eggs set to hatch over the next 2 weeks. 60 of them is this weekend. I am so excited. I love hatching time. I'm like a kid, watching and waiting. Just a follow up on these postings in regards to Chickenstock 2013 Spring event. NPIP is a choice and NOT a requirement for NC residence. We have been in touch with the State Veterinary office in regards to the concerns mentioned here. As required by NC law, you will need your green card in order to sale birds. It is a $10 fee for chicks and Free for adult birds (Poultry/Retite). The state usually turns the applications around within 24hrs. If you are coming into the State of NC from another state, by law, you are required to be tested within 30 days of the event.

Now, we have done what is required of us as making everyone aware of the law. Unfortunately, we will not have the manpower to police this requirement, nor is it my responsibility to do so under state law. We do however hope that everyone takes into consideration the bio-security and safety of others around them and insure that your flock is healthy. The venue at which Chickenstock is held is private land and our event is the only poultry event held there.

If you feel that we have not done our due diligence or are concerned about the safety of your flock, in agreement with the state office, it is best if you avoid the event altogether. We do hope that we will see you there and look forward to a great spring event!

Just filled out my paperwork for the first time....excited to sell my first bird. I currently have 6 Silkie eggs in the incubator of a friend. They won't be ready for Chicken Stock but they will be for sale.
