Carolina Wren Insists on Building Her Nest IN The Coop!

I had Carolina Wrens that had tried to build nests in the nest boxes in some of the coops. Last year I had an infestation on mites in one coop and suspected the wrens had introduced them. Every time a wren would start to build a nest in one of the nest boxes I would take the nest out. I did clean out the nest boxes. I would toss the nest material out of the coops. Apparently they got the memo because they stopped trying to build nests in the nest boxes and moved into the barn.

I just found our resident wrens latest nest in a feed sack I had hanging in the shed used as a trash bag...

I tore it out and moved my clock house over to the back of the shed hoping they’ll use it again in this new location...

They eat so many bugs and catapillers I like having them around...

The idea that I could totally keep wild birds away from the chickens is foreign to me...we have trees and birds everywhere...

I certainly don’t encourage them to be in or around the coop, but birds are the about the last thing I worry about here :idunno
