Candled this morning. Great news!
Three Thaddeus babies are growing along with one Zephyr. There are another two which I am hopeful about, a Thaddeus and a Romeo.
Darn it, the Louis babies are no starters, none in the last batch either. And everytime I look at Laura's chickens I think I love Louis a little more! I guess Louis babies don't like Ohio!

That is great news! I'm excited for you

Ugh on the Louis ones. I have been pulling them every couple days and cracking them open to check fertility so I know it's there but maybe I will have to throw a batch of his in here to see what is going on. Sorry about that Susan

I will pull the eggs from him going out today and I guess fire back up the incubator lol.

Good and bad news here too: my little black chick - Milo - wasn't doing well yesterday morning but made a huge rebound yesterday afternoon. He is extremely active and alert now and spoiled rotten by all the hand feeding and attention
lol.png
He gets to listen to Bach all day and sit on fuzzy socks filled with hand warmers with mashed egg for his meals. Totally worth it though - I am thrilled he will be ok. I wasn't going to be able to breed him anyway due to his black legs, but that's ok - he will join the Castle Serama pet clan

Bad news: found another one of my friend Deb's babies dead this morning in the water bowl
hit.gif
It was filled with marbles too so I don't know what happened. I don't know how it would have drown so maybe it was just a coincidence. I did find it stretched out on its back in the bowl...not sure that would be the way it would drown? Either way, it hit me very hard since this hatch has been plagued since the beginning it seems

Aw, sorry for the baby loss. Maybe the location in or near the water was random, it just happened to be there when it happened. I have a quail waterer and the lip is tiny, so no drowning worries here.
My chicks are enjoying a daily treat of plain yogurt, but boy do they make a mess! Don't seem to mind walking around in it while eating it either!

And I'm sure it is not Louis' fault!

I need to get some new pictures posted. My two little babies are growing SO fast! I haven't raised any Serama chicks before and I am SHOCKED how quickly they are feathering out. It appears we have a little cockrel and pullet (YEAH -I HOPE)! I switched my waterer over to a nipple waterer today and we ALL LOVE it! No more stinky icky water mess with wet shavings and it took them all of 2 seconds to figure it out. I just drilled out the cap of a gatorade bottle and used a push in nipple from Neil (BYC Member) and used automotive brake line to fashion a hanger to go over side of tote (and pushed small screw thru the top (which is bottom of bottle on the side) for proper flow) and abracadabra no worries of drowned babies! LOVE it!

Can't wait to see them!! I have really been thinking about switching to nipple waterers. I am so tired of the icky water all the time. It seems I spend all day changing water! I've been wondering if hamster/rabbit/guinea pig type waterers would work too? I know Silkiechicken trains her babies to drink out of them. I might stick this extra one in a cage today and see what happens.

For those of you not following on FB, I am happy to report that Miley (was Milo), my little black chick, has made a full recovery. This is why I have not been around the thread for awhile...that and our swap next month is taking over my life lol...I've been nursing her. Yesterday I took off her hobble and this morning she is back in with her friends. She is happy

Side note: 12-18 eggs are going on BYC for sale today. The person in line to get eggs this week never returned my emails so I need a home for them. There are eggs from each pen including Amadeus and Napoleon.

I have finally named my four 'boys'. (4boys out of 4!!) Their names are Raphael, Leonardo, Donatello, and Michelangelo!

Here is a pic from last week. They will be 5 weeks old this coming weekend.
