I'm not giving up, but my heart is very heavy. Trying to stay positive but realistic...not an easy thing to do. I've been in tears all morning.

I cant imagine what you are going through today! If you need anything just let me know!!

Thank you

thank you everyone for the good thoughts and kind words for Thaddeus. I have a 12noon vet appointment. She has never done crop surgery so we are going to be learning together. At this point, it is my best...and only option. I will update everyone later tonight on how my boy is doing.

Hoping all goes well on the surgery and he has a speedy recovery. Wanted to let you know I lost 2 of the chicks I hatched this past week, they just never ate or drank, I think one was very under developed and 1 had something wrong with it's hips, it could only walk backwards and sit on it's rump with legs always stretched out in front of it. I think both were doomed from the start. I hate losing one even when they are so tiny like that.

I'm sorry that I haven't updated everyone Thaddeus' for a few days. Sadly, he passed away in my arms about an hour ago

I am extremely heartbroken and grieving for the loss of my baby boy but thankful for all the outpouring of love and support I have received for him on Facebook. He underwent the crop surgery yesterday, came through it just fine (not something you ever want to do at home, trust me), but I think he had an infection that we just caught too late. I thought for sure with the antibiotics and some rest he would start eating and drinking on his own again today, but he didn't. I fear he might have got some liquid in his lungs from the crop. We tried our best to keep his head up during the surgery but you just never know. He also could have aspirated some of the liquid from the flushings. He hadn't lost any weight as of yesterday so he didn't starve to death from the crop issue. Thank you for loving him right along with me

He will be missed. I will be setting the eggs I have collected from him on Thanksgiving day I think and then collecting them more throughout the incubation period for a second hatch. Hopefully by the New Year I will have little Thaddeus babies running around
