Horribly lol. Yesterday was an anxiety ridden day for Fawn, Brigette and myself. Thadd's girls were thrilled to have a rooster again but the stress on Napoleon's original girls was not worth it. I'm very big on the well being and "happiness" of my birds. I refuse to create a stressful environment just for the sake of breeding.....soooooo I am back to square one

I am, am however, bidding on two smooth roosters. I think they are very handsome, young and have great potential even though they are labeled "pet quality" (that never matters to me). One will go to Thadd's girls, the other to Giovanna, Napoleon's silkied frizzle daugther.

I'll admit, there's something intriguing about the show/breeding quality seramas, but to me--first and foremost-- they're pets. I think all of the seramas are beautiful... just love their varied coloring and personalities. Buttercup has a severe overbite/hawk beak haha, but she's the sweetest bird I've ever had! BTW Boots is being a little punk the past week... he's been biting Buttercup's toes, pecking her neck and just acting grumpy overall. He's not quite himself lately and I kind of think he needs more space. I have a really nice 2-story rabbit hutch I've added some hardware cloth and plexiglas to... Just need to figure out how to hook up a heat lamp and a roost bar and make a nesting box, then they're moving into that. They love being outside... maybe that will make him happier. I'm reluctant to move them out though!

Well, I'm excited to see which new birds you end up with

Sorry it hasn't been as smooth as you would've liked, but I know you'll have a happy ending. Your birds are lucky to have such a great caretaker!

Hi all,
smile.png

My little guys, (I have 4 roos that were hatched from ZooMummzy's eggs) they have always been together (ever since they have hatched). 2 of them have even started crowing. They are about 3 months old now. Well, these boys are starting to do what little boy chickens do (the disagreeing, pecking at each other, etc). Now this is the weird part: If you separate them, they will all just go limp. It is the strangest thing I have ever seen! Even when I pick each one up, they are just go limp in my hand. (I guess it is their way of throwing a hissie fit) The first time this happened, I thought I had killed them! Put them back together in the same cage, they huddle up together like long lost brothers that haven't seen each other in ages. Then after a while they are back picking on one another.
I call them my boys, brothers who love each other and hate each other at the same time!

They haven't physically hurt each other (plucking out feathers, drawing blood, or anything bad), so I'm not really sure what to do. I am hoping to get hens for them (hoping to have some luck with a hatching coming up soon) My other option, till then, is to get another cage and put 2 in one and 2 in the other. (hoping that might help)
Has anyone else had issues like this? Any ideas? Comments?
Thanks,

Wish I could help you Paula but I am just entering this realm myself with the 3 boys I have living together. They cannot stand to be apart and thankfully are still young enough to not really pick on each other. I would just keep an eye on things and see how it goes.

SO... last night I came home from work and checked on all the babies. All was well, so I left my room for a few minutes to do some stuff. When I came back, Boots & Buttercup's cage was open and they weren't in it! I walked around the corner, and there they were having the time of their lives scratching around the carpet. I took a picture of Boots with my phone but Buttercup is seemingly incapable of holding still.

Anyway, I put Buttercup back in the cage and went back to get Boots. He bit me pretty hard so I forced him to sit on my lap and watch YouTube videos with me. I think we're on good terms now.

Well, I opened up the incubator to add some more water and turn the eggs so I decided to candle since it's day 3 and I should be able to see a little something in those eggs. Yep! I can already see limb buds in a few and most of them have blood islands

a few of the eggs seem more porous now than they were when they went in and it's difficult to see much, but they all have some sort of shadow against the shell that moves when I turn the egg. We'll see next week.

One thing I decided I don't like about the Brinsea Mini is that because it's so small, you can only put a tiny bit of water in it to get the humidity you want. Honestly, I think it's like a teaspoon for me to get humidity at about 45%. That amount of liquid dries up in a day! So every morning and every night before I go to bed I have to put just a little more water in. It's not that big of a deal, but something to consider.

I was holding my breath till I read you found them!!! Yep, that sure is Zephyr's boy!!! Zephyr bites me too or attacks my feet at times. He gets massive scolding and then snuggling. He knows when Momma is not happy! He will bury his head in my hair and peek out at me from time to time to see if I'm happy with him again or not lol.

Congrats on the eggs!!!! I have the 20 advanced model and I still have to add water a lot. I am saving up for the humidity pump for mine so I do not have to deal with that anymore. It's not too bad during the first 18 days but it means absolutely no sleep for me during hatching because the humidity drops a lot.

I'll probably post in the incubating/hatching area too, but I wanted to tell you guys that all of the water I added to the incubator this morning (as in 2-3 hours ago) is completely evaporated! I don't know why and I don't know how to fix this. The humidity in my room has stayed constant (the incubator's in the closet in my room). I put really warm water in... could this be the problem? I put room temperature water ~68.5* in this time to see if that makes any difference, but that's distressing! My hygrometer was still reading 36-38% even though the wells were dry, but I've been trying to maintain about 45%. Any thoughts?

What day are you on? Days 1-17, I like to keep mine 25-35% and then 17-complete I get it up to 55-65%. I wet some paper towels or sponges to increase the humidity

Do you have a room for a small sponge or a piece of a sponge or a small cup of water?? I have to do that for lockdown. Not really sure how small that incubator is so I'm not much help. I'm sure someone in the incubating section can help.
