'C'ats 'A're 'T'ruly 'S'pecial

I have not seen Layla's babies. They're in the very back of my shed. I was going to catch them all and send them to my no kill shelter. But we decided to wait until these two horrible storms pass. So it's very windy and flooded her in SC. My husband is currently in Columbia SC where they're under water,no power and under mandatory curfew. He hauled a generator there for a Walmart and ended up taking it to SAMs club. Please y'all pray for my husband. He's in a horrible area and more rain is expected. He's helping out with the hurricane disaster relief. FEMA. Have any of you seen the news??? The hurricane shifted and is now headed to Burmuda. But,it is miles wide. So the Carolinas are getting pounded. Plus we had a separate system hit first. Bringing tons of rain. Our animals are dry and well stocked. I check on them several times a day.

On another note... Gracie is great! Litter box trained already. Very very smart. And very affectionate. She's on a bottle as she's only 6-8 weeks. She isn't weened. My boys are handing her well. She's a Mexican calico. I'll send pics as soon as I get better service. How's everyone else doing? I've been busy with getting ready for the storm and taking care of all the animals. Miss y'all! God bless.

We heard about how terrible it is there and we are all praying. I hope the rain stops. Or else goes to California to put out some of those wild fires. Seems like the rain never goes where it is needed. Its hard to believe that they are having a draught anywhere in this country.

I'm so glad Gracie is doing well! We had a kitten named Gracie also, and she was a real sweet little girl.

Nym playing with our dog, Arby's, tail

Genny after she got her tail amputated. She was hit by a car, I heard her scream and went outside but didn't see any cat. Later I found her hiding and bleeding on the porch, her tail completely stripped of all flesh and just a bone. So creepy!!
She waited in a crate over-night and got it amputated in the morning. At first she didn't know how to balance, but she has learned how to deal with it really well.

Genny is what I call a Mexican calico. That's what Gracie will look like. Right now she's darker. But I'm pretty sure her other colors will show more as she ages. She's just wonderful.
Yes as I'm from Cali and my family is there. They're suffering from the no water situation. They're being rationed. Meaning they are only allowed to use water on certain days and at certain times. It stinks. As for sc,my home is wet but ok. Columbia is under water. It's just awful.
I do know how to do that but I'd still be interested in your advice! I'm always open to new ideas. I miss Yall.

Yes we are a sappy group but such a wonderful group. Sorry about the rant again and BTW I didn't have you pegged as 61.

Not sure if that's a compliment or a commentary on my immature writing style - LOL.

I second chickendreams24 on the "definitely a compliment" post!!!! We are a sappy group. Only in the sense that we looooove our animals. We all have "sucker" written on our heads! The needy babies just flock to us bc they know we'll love on them unconditionally and nurture them.

I love the name Mexican Calico. : ) Officially its called a tortoiseshell, at least Genny's color is.

Nym loved his milk, and its better for their bones if they get it for a while after weaning. However, he started eating the nipples off his bottles, so we switched him to a dish of milk and wet kitten food and then got him into eating kitten kibble. You can soak it in the kitten milk to make it softer when the kittens are young.
So, a kitten should be "weaned from the bottle" at around 7 weeks but can start eating wet food they can't choke on as early as 3 or 4 weeks of age.

I hope this helps.

Lol yea that's right! Idk why we use that term. Um... I also soak the kibble in warm water. It does the same thing and helps keep them hydrated. She's on KMR as well as a little wet. Trying to introduce her to kitten chow. She loves it all! But I know it's about doing what's best for her. I new she wasn't weaned. I know she still needs certain nutrients from her mama to help her grow up healthy. Since I don't have mama.....I have seen her system start to get better. As she was all loose stools! Poor thing. Who knows what she was eating if anything. I don't understand how she got separated from her ma. And where are her siblings??? So sad to me. But I love her!!!

Well if she's eating some solids already then there's probably no need but my Mom always taught me to slowly add rice baby cereal to the formula(in a bottle or on a plate) slowly reducing the ratio to thicken it up over a few days and then soaking kitten food and mashing that up and mixing that with kitten formula or the baby cereal mix. Over a period of at least a few feedings leaving the kibbles in bigger and bigger chunks until they are whole but softened and continuing to reduce the amount of formula or cereal mixture until they're just softened with water. From there you gradually lessen how soft you make them until they're dry. You can also start offering them dry kibbles before that and some will skip right to the end.
