This is Colby I got him from the shelter when my hubby died he is the best friend I ever had
he is in the barn keeping watch. Making sure I am safe . Also waiting for his daily egg.
The chickens showed him how to dust. That's why he looks messy .
He is not a barn cat but he keeps the mice away. Colby was raised in the city then I moved to a small farm on the mountain . He loves it . So I call him my city cat.

We have six resident cats at the moment - generally we have anywhere from 4-7 resident cats and 1-5 "guests" at any given time depending on how many have wandered in, been dumped, etc that we haven't gotten re-homed or found space for at the shelter.
Our six right now are Hugger (14 this year - shelter kitty); Mojo, Salem and Jakie - (4 this year - dumped); Addie (3 this year - from the litter of a dumped cat -mama and siblings re-homed) and Sheldon (our baby - adopted in October).

I found a cat in the neighborhood
She ended up sleeping on my back porch hungry bald from the flees she was mistreated and neglected .
I Had no idea who owned it. being a nice person that I am I let her live with me . Had her treated for the flees.
She had me a litter of kittens not thinking she was with child . So after the litter got old enough I had her spaded . Found her a nice place to live.
When I Was ready to move her to her new home.
A woman down the street Seen her sitting in the window and wanted her back.
.
This was the same woman that always was coming to the to see if would lend her money for cat food milk and what ever .
She could not afford this cat as it was .
I did not give her the cat back.
I put the money into making her healthy so I think I did the responsible thing for the poor neglected cat.
I felt If I gave her back to that woman it would be out on the street again hungry .
When I go buy this old lady's house to visit her and the cat is watching soap operas all day. I made this woman very happy and she has a lots of company .
I might of made a enemy but..
Their is a nice lady and a cat out there that I made very happy .

Just wanted to share this true story
Maybe you have a cat story to share.

I think you did the right thing. And I know, in some states possession is 9/10 of the law. Here where I live if you feed a stray for a week, it becomes your animal.

And I also have a several rescue stories.

2 years ago I was waiting for my kids to get out from martial arts class. Just sitting in the parking lot. A truck drove by, with 2 men in it laughing, then I see the driver throw something out of the truck and hear a cats cry! The truck took off, guys laughing all the way. I had brought some cooked chicken for dinner, so I grabbed some and went looking. The cat found me instead. She didn't want my chicken, she just wanted to be held. She had no hair on her back legs, and one of her canine teeth was broken. I brought her home and she was very sick, covered in fleas and ticks and very very starved. I doctored her, got her spayed, but couldn't teach her to use the litter, or accept my dogs. So I made a little house for her on my front porch and she Never left my yard. A year later, and she got real skinny, and another tooth fell out! I called a cat rescue I had just started working with. She couldnt be outside with her health problems, but she was terrified of my large dogs. She is now on a special diet, and she has a new home with one of the rescuers. They taught her to use a litter box and she is very much spoiled and loved. Her name is Mittens and she is a darling black and white kitty that loves nothing more than lap time with her owner.

This past November I heard a kitten calling in distress. Poor thing was in my tree in the front yard. It had been cold and damp. I climbed the tree and fell. Finally did get the kitten down, it was so small it fit in the palm of my hand. She was severely hypothermic, I had to tuck her in under my shirt for 3 days to help her keep her temperature normal. I bottle fed her for a couple weeks and we bonded really tightly to each other. She is now the queen of the house. Here are a couple pictures of Kairi.
