Cayuga Angel Wing

Yes Purina Flock Raiser is also vegetable protein [soy.]

My ducks eat all kinds of protein bugs, worms ,meat I give them,They are not vegetarians

Here in the US they stopped putting meat based protein in animal feed because of some kind of problem with sickness [@casportpony do you remember what it was] The feed I buy now is NON GMO and has animal protein in it.

I think Purina stopped because customers wanted them to. There still are lots of feed mfg's that still use fish oil and fish meal in duck feed.

Even turkey starters/growers/finishers have animal products:

I don't know the amount of manganese in the brand @casportpony uses or in flock raiser, but using the source that was pointed out in another thread, it looks like generally ducks need 50mg and turkeys need 60mg per kg of feed. With the differences in their body and growth rates what seems like miniscule differences could add up.

https://www.nap.edu/read/2114/chapter/5 <---- turkey requirements (turkeys obviously have a lot more requirements for a balanced diet).
Interesting though.
I wonder if through genetics certain ducks are predisposed to angel wing which could therefore be brought on by their diet.
@CayugaJana How old are the ducklings?
6 weeks old

I would venture to guess genetics has more effect than diet. With diet possibly compounding the problem. None of the Pekins I’ve raised have had angel wing. And they eat the same thing.:)

Are you tagging the post to show me how to do it?:D
Lol, I just thought it was a good selection of pictures and text that could be used in a "how to treat angel wing" article or thread for the stickies.
