"Changes to child labor laws hurt farmers."

Again I ask, how often do children die from working on a farm in America? Is this some sort of problem that I am in the dark? I happen to believe that children learn a great deal from work and learning to tend a farm is a very valuable life skill, one that the government might be stripping them of. I didn't read the other article....I don't agree with a bunch of fear based regulations put in effect "for our own good." Century old mining practices are not really relevant to this, imo.

I think drinking, texting and goofing off in a car will harm children much more than farm work could ever do. If parents are worried about their child getting hurt working on a farm, why not have the child work at McDonalds or some of the other places?

My home schooled child was working at my friends horse farm a couple times a week a couple years ago, helping with the feed and tending of the animals. This was a great experience at age 12.

It is NOT working on a family farm under the supervision of people who care about their children that the law is aimed at. It is the large factory farms where it is shown that a child is FOUR times more like;ly to be killed.

From your article, "Prohibition of those under 16 years old from operating almost all power-driven equipment. A limited exemption would permit some student learners to operate certain farm implements and tractors, when equipped with proper rollover protection structures and seat belts, under specified conditions."

Ridiculous.

"Prohibition of youths at country grain elevators, grain bins, silos, feed lots, stockyards, livestock exchanges and livestock auctions." ....prohibited from exchanges and auctions? Is there some sort of death risk in this? Please enlighten me if so...

This stinks!!!
