Changing Run Wire to 1/2"

From the pics it looks like I'm going to have to staple or nail the new HC on the inside of the run, except on the door & door area whose wiring is affixed to the outside. That's not an issue, is it?

Only if it's awkward for you to work in there.

You don't have to put the new wire directly against the old, but it will look better aesthetically and leaving a gap allows bedding and debris to collect between the layers.

Here are the pics I should have included re: installing the new HW cloth. The original wire starts out exposed on the outside of the building, but then ends up inside because of where they installed the framing at the base. Impossible to remove old without taking the building apart. So, I'll start covering it with the new stuff up top outside & then run it as far as I can til I hit the bottom frame. I suppose I could even extend it a couple inches to cover those bottom boards, like a kind of step apron. I guess I'll use some small zip ties to secure the new wire to the old wire at the bottom, just before getting to those bottom boards. I want to be as non bulky as possible, but I can't think of anything else to clasp the wires together down there, and if I step the wire further out, I shouldn't have to use that many anyway...

You could look into hog rings or perhaps even weaving lengths of wire to secure it.

Alternatively (or in addition to zip ties/other methods), bend out a couple inches of hardware cloth in an L so it covers most of the top of the boards and then using screws and smaller fender washers, fasten it down to the top of the board. That would give you the most security at the bottom board area, which could be key as that area is more likely to be clawed at by predators and pests.

This is the door to the run that's already here. This vertical gap looks alarming to me now (mice, maybe a small snake?). Maybe it didn't before because the wire was not yet the smaller, 1/2" hw cloth yet. Any ideas on how I could reinforce this? I'm thinking of something like a rubber door weather-strip thing - a strip that I might run vertically?
And now I wonder if the horizontal gap at the top looks large enough for a mouse?

put a piece of molding (rip a 2x4 down) on the inside. That will also work as a door stop to keep it from being pushed in.

I also see that I really need to prime and paint all this wood on the existing run. Dang. I've got a Kilz-type mold primer and good weather paint. Never a dull moment!
