He is nice looking roo.
Mary, I have heard that white Chanties are both, but belong in the category of white recessive most of the time. So if they are cross bred, other colors will pop out not white. Our whites will produce whites, so if your broody hatched a white/white Chantie egg it should be a white chante. But from what I have read, if the white hen had the other roosters over her, the chicks probably will not be "white"?It's been a quiet thread lately, and I have a color genetics question. Is Chantecler white dominant or not? Monday a broody hatched out some cute chicks for me. Hens are white Chantecler, Speckled Sussex, and splash BLR Wyandotte. Chick sires are either Walter's brother the white Chantecler, or a BC Marans. One chick is blue, so definitely Marans-Wyandotte mix. Some are white, a couple have smokey markings on the back, and two have amber shadings. Way to soon to see comb types! I'd love to have a couple of Chantecler chicks to keep, but only if I'm sure they are Purebred. Anyone help? Mary
It looks like the same cockerel/cock in the 3rd and 4th photos. A couple things stand out about him that you may already notice yourself. His wattles are a bit on the large side and his shake color appears to lack the yellow I see in the pullets/hens. I suggest using a better male for breeding, if available.
