Chantecler Thread!

What variety are they supposed to be? I have Partridge and they are much darker & the combs are not cushion (if I was looking at the pictures correctly). Mine are great dual purpose birds and the roosters have all be very docile except one that was yummy. Mine have been easy to raise but they do not do well in tight confinement.

I didn't know there were varieties of them until I started reading these forums. I have an email into her to ask more specific questions for the breed. I am very confused about the combs. What is the correct comb?

And I do have them in the other chicks so maybe it's too small. I haven't put them out yet because some of the others are still quite small.

As I said I am totally new and learning every day. Thank you so much for some input. If I find out more breed specifics I will add it here.

The two pics at the end look like Chantecler chicks, but the two on the top look like Production Reds. Chanteclers have cushion combs. Chicks need to be protected until they are about 16 weeks old and grow all their adult feathers. You should be able to tell the sex of the birds at around 20 weeks (Chanteclers are difficult to know until then). We are happy to answer any questions and there are plenty of threads to help you with questions. Welcome!

The pics are of when I got them and now. Sorry I didn't say that in the post.
no problem :) The combs on the birds look to be single combs, so if they are Chanteclers, they are mixed and not purebred. We have whites and buffs. They are supposed to have cushion combs like this: This our white Chantecler rooster Walter

That's a cool bird! Now I am disappointed. Ugh.
thank you :) He is huge, weighs about 9 lbs. We have three white hens and two buff hens.

Our three pure whites hens. They are nice sized too, about 7 lbs each:

The hen on the far left below is a Chantecler/Ameraucana mix...she lays blue green eggs but has a cushion comb. Being in Michigan, it's nice to have birds with those cushion or pea combs. They don't get frostbitten as easily during our bitter winter temps.

John Blehm in Michigan has partridge and buffs. I think it's 'fowlstuff.com'. Nice birds! I have whites, same bloodlines as Candy's, and love them. I also have some twelve week old white Chantecler/ Speckled Sussex cross chicks, who are white, some buff shading, white legs like the SS, and cushion combs. They are looking very good, and need homes. Mary
