Sorry that you lost her, but having her chicks is wonderful. Love seeing pictures!
I've kept six pullets and two cockerels from the spring Cackle order, and so far like them.
HOWEVER, this group of pullets is wandering far, usually with a bantam EE cockerel, and I expect that there's a bad experience in their future. Hopefully as they mature, they will start to blend with the mature birds a bit more.

I believe that's why I lost this bird as well. She was in a breeding pen all spring/summer, so when she was released, she wandered away from the flock. This line of Chanteclers needs a bit of work on being range wary—a few generations of free-ranging brooder stock should do it.

I for some reason thought they only came in white. But the partridge colour is really pretty.

I need to get me some of those.

I got my Partridge Chanteclers as chicks from a Heritage Breeder in Parkhill Ontario. He is very reputable and only breeds the Partridge Chanteclers, Black Australorp and Canadian Bresse. Any news from Chantecler owners on here? Breeding season is almost at an end for me, I've hatched about 15 chicks so far from the two trios I kept back to hatch from. Not much, but my birds have come a long way from the lone trio I had back a few years.

Fortunately I had a brooder full of chicks when my roo attacked a hawk pinning a hen down for lunch. I tried to nurse him back to health but he didnt make it. A few hens were sitting as well so I had plenty of replacement males to choose from. Im down to about 4, 6 month old roosters for breeding and its hard to pick which ones to keep. Im not a pro breeder and honestly I dont fully understand the breed standard and how to maintain it. I just work with what I have for the last 6 years. Partridge Chanteclers seem to be getting hard to find. I can post photos of the roosters this week that Im picking from if your interested, maybe you can give me some feedback as to which ones to hang onto. Combs are small and coloring varies, not perfect but nice. Your Buff Chanteclers are beautiful.

This is a start anyway, by this weekend I'll try and have a nice photo of each one. I think I'll try getting my camera up and running instead of using a phone.
I really like this one, he has the yellow legs, small cushion comb, small even wattles. I dont know that his color is the best. I think preference is a darker color. I have 2 very dark roosters I'll get to.

Really nice looking rooster. Like you I dont understand the standard or how to breed to it or to improve it. I just have 4 partridge chanteclers, one buff hen and a Dominique hen. I got mine from Ideal hatchery in Texas. Living in Michigan, I want birds bred for the weather here. My flock will never be very large, but I do want a true heritage type bird.

Nice looking cockerel! His feathering seems a bit overly fluffy in the rear, and he could use some more substance in his chest, but he's young so he may look less awkward with time. Decent back. His colouring would be better if it were more even, it gets quite bright in the hackle. Generally, the shade that's on his shoulders is preferred for the whole bird. Just my two cents, as I usually work with buff.
