Chantecler Thread!

This is about what I look for in terms of feather tightness. I'm a bit picky about that in my own flock since I find it's important for breed character. Right now I have too many females with cochin floof so I'm trying to improve that with males that have a touch of leghorn type. It seems to be working.

I have Cackle white Chanties, reasonable looking and weights, but hardly perfect. And that 'cochin poof' on some of the hen's rear ends describes it exactly!
I've been selecting for size, mostly, and then type, as long as there's nothing really objectionable there. Nice birds overall, and I'm not going to be showing them anyway.

Finally! I have photos of the 5 cockerels. So if you had to pick 2 which ones would you choose? If you are familiar with the SOP thats great, if not please feel free to pick the ones you like best anyway. Some roosters are just more eye appealing. Maybe you dont care for any of them, thats fine as well. All feedback is good. Leg tag #s from first to last are: 29, 31, 50, 27, 38. 50 is in the earlier post. Thanks!

Honestly, they've shaped up beautifully and I would have a difficult time picking. #29 and #31 I would cull, due to poor comb type, some colour imbalance, and a markedly shallow chest, but between #50, #27, and #38 it would be a close race. The last two are a tad dark to my eye and seem like their last hackles are pure black, but they all have decent type, if a bit loose feathering. I slightly prefer the back and comb on #27, though #38 might look more balanced if he were set up at a slightly different angle. So---#27 and #50 would be my final picks out of the batch. I see nice pure black chests on all of them, which I am a bit picky about.
