Chantecler Thread!

My only Wht Chantecler... Started out with 4, but 3 turned out to be roosters. This is Sugar, but she is anything BUT sweet, she is the most Bossy pullet ever. lol
Oooh, she's pretty. I have a partridge, she's the boss of the coop. She'll assume anyone's eggs and gives everyone less dominant than her a good night peck in the top of the head upon entering the coop. Lol. She won't peck me but "sings" quite "clear" that I'm invading "her eggs".

My one and only White Chantecler. Had more of them, but the Red Tails were a real issue this year. I've never had them bother my chickens in the past, but this year I've lost a bunch of them, even with a lot of areas for them to take cover. To the point I finally just had to lock everyone up, and they don't get to free range anymore. :-( She's a big girl, 6 months old now and as big or bigger than many of my hens of other breeds. The bird on the right is a 2 year old, the one behind her is a 1 year old.

She's a beauty.

All my white chante girls are molting! White feathers everywhere...Walter isn't molting YET. Eggs down to 8-10 a day out of 30 total girls :( My serial broody Chante/Ameraucana mix is still sitting in the nest...a solid month now. Frustrating! Maybe we will give her some eggs to hatch when we go on vacay... :)

Go to Tractor Supply and switch your bird to Nutrena Feather Fixer. It is wonderful for bringing in the best set of new feathers. Also has something in it which helps the poop make the vent an inhospitable place for mites. Folk using it are saying the mites are going away in a big way . So 2 neat things about this feed! The Nutrena blog "Scoop from the Coop" sends 2.00 coupons by email every once and a while. Our Tractor Supply sells it for 15.00 for 40 lbs.
Best,
Karen

Greetings all. I am considering getting four Chantecler pullets I recently saw on Craigslist. I'm in "research mode" tonight, LOL. Glad I found this thread!

At what age will a White Chantecler pullet be obvious?

I am STILL waiting for the 4 pullets I paid for in May, expecting to pick them up late summer. The guy doesn't communicate AT ALL, didn't even respond to my first inquiry. Got around to answering the second (in August) saying a Fisher got a bunch of the birds and they had to start over and "Another couple weeks and we should be set".

OK, I am a patient guy but that was nearly 2 months ago. I don't know when the second batch of birds hatched but I am fast running out of time to integrate them with my other 16 birds (nine 3 Y/Os and seven 18 week olds). No way to make sure they have water in a separate coop (Q&D, adjacent to the real coop) now that the temps are dropping.

I'll be posting pics of my White Chantecler keeper-cockerels soon as well as the only three or perhaps four pullets I plan to use for breeding. I've been butchering the culls as I go along as they are graded out, so they can't confuse my judgement.

Here is a casual pic or two of my birds that only shows how poor are my skills with a cam. Please don't judge my birds by these pics taken about one month ago. I've been handling a couple of known 'keepers' and getting them accustomed to standing in their review box...lol

Are the dark ones partidge? They look nearly black, beautiful contrast to those snowy white beauties.
