The chicks one week old!

They are thriving out in the coop with Mama Heating Pad.

Looking good. I can definitely go with BJG on the black one, especially with those black legs. 2 of my "black australorps" came from Meyer and MUST have some BJG crossed in (for what reason I don't know) because they had yellow feet bottoms (still do) and some on the legs along with some black which eventually took over the yellow. No BA will ever have anything but pink/gray foot bottoms and slate legs. But the girls are laying well and didn't get huge so all is well, I'm not breeding or showing.

Our chicks are three weeks old and are doing great.

They are starting to venture out of their small area of the coop under my supervision. Our hens seem to understand that I am “rooster” watching over the chicks, and they have not made contact with any of the chicks. The door segregating the chicks is closed if I am not there watching.

One of the five Chantecler chicks has been feathering out much faster than the other four, which makes me wonder if she is the only pullet among them. Here she is in the middle:

And here she is by herself:

I am looking forward to watching these chicks develop further!

10 weeks old now. I suspect that two of the Chantecler chicks are pullets and three are cockerels. I think the one Chantecler-Black Jersey Giant cross is a pullet. Here are some photos:

The same two plus the BJG cross; I think they are all pullets.

The BJG cross. Her comb, like those of the 2 Chanteclers above, is still pale.

The three Chanteclers I suspect are cockerels. Their combs are much redder and their coloring is darker and more patchy than the two I suspect are pullets.

Two of the “cockerels” facing off. They take themselves so seriously!

I’d appreciate any input as to whether I have the sexes correct. I don’t plan to breed, but like learning, so any comments on the Chanteclers’ conformation would also be appreciated!

Yes, you got genders correct. It's too early to judge body type yet. I'm liking the dark colour on the males, though. :thumbsup

Looks like you have the sex right on those 5, our group of 6 Partridge Chanteclers are looking like 2 pullets/4 cockerels at 12 weeks. the 8 at 4 weeks are still too hard to sex.
