Charcoal or opal? I have three, two yr old birds. 2 hens & 1 male. I really don't think they are charcoal (not dark enough) and the male is showing some iridescence. The hens are almost dove grey or silver, no iridescence. They came from from a trio of blue split to charcoal. Anyone have any ideas?

Photos?

If the male as well as female parents are Indiablue split to charcoal. , the resulting chicks are, Indiablue, Indiablue split to charcoal and charcoal in the ratio of 25:50:25 genetically. . As our friend suggested,. a look at their photos. may help identify their color

How do you tell an IB from one that is split to charcoal?

That should be --how do you tel an IB hen from one that is split to char

One difference in Opal and Charcoal females is in the wing primary feathers. I think one is grey and the other is brown. Splits is game of chance and requires good records and the knowledge of what the percentages will be. Opel I think is grey and Charcoal is brown....george
