How many eggs can a silkie usually cover/hatch? I had 10 silkies and 3 sulmtalers hatch yesterday. I am hoping that they will be my incubators next spring for the cream legbars and sulmtalers. Legbars are large to xl and sulmtalers are medium size eggs. Weird but the sulmtaler chicks are so much bigger than the cream legbars when they hatch! Chicknfun congrats on a productive day. Alaska, i dont see how you do it! Tony, i agree what is a few more chickens at this point really? Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.Franken Chickens.....That's Funny!!!!!!! Hope your turkeys do well, Alaskan!! Bama- glad your IL's are having such a great time with the hatching!! Sounds like it is going well!! AAAHHHHHH, to have new baby silkies.........what color are they? I have my silkie hen on eggs right now....day 12, I think, or 13.......Only 3 are her eggs. Speaking of Franken chickens.......I have no idea what will hatch out of the 2 blue ee eggs I put in there. The roos that are in with my ee girls are: 1 golden sebright, 1 silver silkie, 1 WC blue polish, and my mutt silkie/leghorn, Winter........OMG, there's no telling what will hatch there- scary......LOL So I guess you are getting my rain, Tony- Nice of me to give you a day off, right?......LOLOK, I got more done on those blasted pens yesterday.....not much, but I currently have only one piece of wire to put up on the top, and 2 doors to make and attach- then it is in with the chickens!!!!!!!!!!! What a never ending saga this chickening is..........
But, of course, It is so much FUN!!!!! I totally understand how poor Tony keeps getting into trouble with the Mrs.!!! Tony- you have so many chickens now you could probably get more and she may not even notice.....just do this
when she asks where that new chicken came from......
, and plead the 5th....LOLOLOLOL![]()
Quote: I am not sure how many a silkie can cover, but mine is a very small hen and she's got 6 under her now, had 8, of which 5 were silkie eggs, 2 are huge blue EE eggs, and one sultan/polish mix. I did take out 2 of the silkie eggs, infertile. Last time she went broody, was all small eggs and she ended up with about 10 - 11 under her. Only 5 hatched out.....my fault, don't ask, inexperienced candling.....![]()
WHAT AM I SAYING???????????? I don't even have room for the chickens I have now, let alone turkeys..........My DH would have kittens if I brought home turkey poults.....Yes, he would notice!!!![]()
Love your coop and run Alaskan! Great job! Those chicks will love it!OK...so my turkey poults are getting a bit better.
And yep, I tried the tin foil and marbles and other little sparkles. But, it was still very difficult to get them to really eat.
I am so........ Tired
I should be working on the run right now....but ow
I finished up the interior of my main chicken coop. Then I painted maybe a fourth of the interior.
In just a bit I am going to go out and measure my run, and figure out heights of posts and such. I decided to use the old wood I already have, and just paint the parts of the wood that will be below ground, and hope that that will slow down the rot.
I really appreciated all of the comments and suggestions, as to what I could do with my run....
The word shed is blurred for some reason. The shed is actually a coop addition but isn't insulated and had a dirt floor. I am vaguely wondering if I should insulate and floor it....but the run comes first.
Here is the front of the coop
