Chat N Chicknfun Thread

I bet you'll be glad to get home!!
Yup, I am raised as a city girl, pioneer stock, LOL, but I am now a country girl! I prefer the country way of life too!! Just more wholesome, I guess!!

Hi Chickadoodles!!!!

You can only do what you can do- I'm sure you will handle it well!! Just take it one single day at a time-
I love love love my EE!! I love seeing all those different colored eggs too! They are mostly very sweet birds, as well!!
Colo Spgs is so beautiful!! Lots to see and do near there!! Garden of the Gods is one of my favorite places, ever!! We used to go camping at South Park, but I know they dammed that area years ago, and now the places that we used to go are all under water! Have they gotten that Black Forest fire under control yet?
I always thought Denver was a pretty city, but I miss the mountains so much! Would be great if there were ocean nearby.....LOL
oh yes they have the fire under control 2 deaths, and 400 some houses burned.. you could see it from a grocery that i go to.. but yup all under control, pulled out the military air support i think they are up tp 55% contained... maybe 75%. going to be using the berry picking to make my uncle get out and do something (70) and to show his grand daughter theres more than just berries in a basket at the store.we are giving her a duck for christmas.. currently dads hen is sitting on about 19 eggs. so we are culling all but 2 hens and a drake.

I have 2 Cayuga ducks- They are so different than chickens, but I love them dearly-
Yes, kids these days need to be shown the connection between them and their food!
Good idea to have them go out and do that! Will provide lasting memories!
Glad that fire is finally contained. My aunt built a beautiful house in Parker yeards ago, just north of Black Forest, sorry to know that it has burned so bad, and so sorry for the people who have lost so much- devastating!
We had such bad fires here in northern Florida quite a few years back-98, and it was so so so so bad! They evacuated the whole county, was literally a firestorm, very scary!

Hi Everyone!!
frow.gif

Hoping today is a terrific day everywhere for everyone!!!!!

Boy, That's a tall order!! LOL
OK, I promised I would post pics. Here they are:

Well, I guess I don't have a pic with all 4 of them out from under the mama together.
I say 4 because I had to put down one. The one in the blue egg.
hit.gif

It hatched, I walked by the brooder, and saw it. Then about 2 hours or so later I was in my room, and I heard all this horrible cheeping. When I came and looked, the poor little thing was trying to walk, dragging what looked like intestines behind it, blood everywhere, and a lung sticking out between its head and wing. OMG, It was a terrible sight!
So, I put the little thing down. I hope I don't ever have to do that again!!

Anyway, here's the breakdown of what I ended up with-
2 silkie x silkie- one is marked like a chipmunk, and the other is dark blue with a tinge of brown
on head, and brown rings around its eyes- I have to guess that the first will be a
regular partridge silkie, and the second will be a blue partridge, like the mama,
hopefully with more of the blue.....Let's hope for hens
lol.png

1 mutt x mutt- white with some black splash in there, just like the last batch.
1 silkie x mutt-white, no spots......yet

Again, Hopefully hens- i am quickly becoming overrun with roos.....LOL

Tony- sorry you are stuck inside and can't get stuff done. You have been working so hard, and I know how frustrating it is to be stopped by the rain, maybe you need a break-

Alaskan- Thanks for bringing the unanswered posts button to our attention. That is the BYC spirit!!!
I have seen other chicken forums, but I have not participated on any. I just am comfortable here, and most members are not stuffy, if you get my drift. I love BYC,
and this is where I am staying!!

Chickadoodles- glad you got a syrup order- pm me with details- do you only fill local orders? what kind of syrup? Hope you got rested up from the catching of all those birdies!!!
I had one get out the other day, and it took me a good hour to catch her- i was running around after her yelling for help, but no one heard me with the windows all closed and a/c running....rotten little chicken......fast little buggers!!
I need a net, and I'm fresh out of mealworms
th.gif
Hope the rain nets you some great fruit!!! What kind of fruit do you grow? Forgive me if you have said and I missed it

(me)....LOL

Ok, I am going back now to get properly caught up, and make sure I didn't miss something!
Your babies are so cute! Just love me some little fuzzy butts!

I sent you a pm with some details on the syrup.
Chasing chickens in this heat is no game! For sure! Luckily it only took us 2 1/2 hrs to get them all done! The guy told me over the phone he would help me, when I told him I did not have any help.... but he just stood there watching me chase them all!
barnie.gif
And he had a big net!
I have been trying to look over the unanswered posts but I have only been able to answer a couple. I just don't have alot of chicken knowledge yet....

Quote: What a jerk! He could have at least let you use the net! That kind of thing just makes me angry- Well, glad you didn't end up with heat stroke!!!
They are fast!
Got the PM,send me pricing details- I have never tried Hickory syrup, sounds like it would be a perfect addition to homemade bbq sauce!!!!! MMMMM ribs, I gotta take them out of the freezer......
