Chat room for non religious poultry keepers! :D

Thought I posted this before I left, whoops. :th

Ohh, okay. I don't know anything about that. My first thought was Critical Role, but I just think Trinket is an adorable name in general. :love

Huh, I've never heard of anything like that. 🤔

Okay, I've got to ask about the story behind this one, too 🤭

She's the first chick to ever be born on my property, from my stock as well. First time using the bator, thought some things were going wrong. She'd pipped early, and I had been worrying about her all day. Joked that she's giving me too much anxiety, I'll have a heart attack. That was the name for her if she turned out to be a male. Next morning she was born, I was in love, found her an on-theme name that I thought was funny

Aww, that's cute! I know that feeling, too! I've been hatching pretty much every year for a while and hatched a whopping 16 batches of chicks this year, and every time, every egg, that span of time between pipping and zipping felt like a lifetime :th

16 batches is serious work. I'd love to do that many, I'd have to phase out every single breed out except for the one I'll be breeding. That breed would be the serama, I'm so in love with the breed, and bantams in general

They were my silkied Cochin bantams, so worth the near-heart-attack experience. :love

Definitely a lot of work, though. And I wasn't able to do any of my other planned hatches, like the naked neck mixes I was talking about a while back, because I was focusing on these guys. But I'm really happy with some of the birds I have growing out, and already seeing that progression toward building and improving my line is worth the work. 🥰

Breeding my first batch gave me such an appreciation for breeders. Constant planning, more pens needed. Daily evaluations! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE it, but it's not a walk in the park. I'm working on next year's breeding pens, choosing which female gets to be bred next year, and trying to find stock for diversity for the year after that
