Chat room for non religious poultry keepers! :D

Hey how is everyone?
Today I figured out that I’m allergic to maple 😬

Glad for you that it's not the syrup you're allergic to, but allergies are no fun either way. :hugs Did you find this out because you have something made of maple wood or something?

Me, I'm getting anxious about tomorrow! Gotta be ready and braced for a ~6-and-a-half hour round trip to Ohio and back. Definitely excited about going, but I just hate long car trips! I also need to write out detailed instructions for opening my coops because I'm leaving before sunrise, and of course the thought of how many ways my coop opening routine could be messed up by someone else doing it has me more than a little nervous, too. 😅

Oh I hate when other people open and close my coop for me, so I definitely get where you are coming from there. No one does it like me. No one hangs out in the run after and watches each chicken carefully for signs of injury, illness, or stress. No one else checks to make sure that each chicken gets some food and water...everyone here just opens it and darts so the roosters do not get them. And when they close it, they do not check to make sure the chickens are not fighting inside the coop, and if they are, they do not know how to make the chickens move to sleep next to other chickens that they do not pick on. 😑 It is very stressful. 😵‍💫

Oh I definitely get it :hugs . Try not to stress about it, as you'll have so much fun at the National! Really wish we had one

Yes, exactly!! It's unnerving enough to have someone else opening my coops, but I go out of my way to make sure I am always home for coop closing. There's just too much to mess up with that and that could cost my birds their lives with all the predators in these woods here. Last time I ran late to get home from a day trip and got home after sunset, I was straight up in a panic attack until I made sure all my birds were closed up safe. :th

It usually is a ton of fun! My mom comes with every year and I think she gets sick of me chewing her ear off about all the different breeds by the end 🤭

I know it's not the same as actually attending, but I can try to take a ton of pictures to share :hugs Any requests? I can't guarantee that anything in particular will actually be there, but I'll try to get a bunch of pictures of the ones that I do come across.

It has been hard for me to be gone for A WEEK! We're going home tomorrow, and I can't wait to be home. It's a 13-14 hour drive :tongue and I am NOT looking forward to it. With two drivers, it's totally doable, but all that sitting! :barnie

I miss my chickens...:hit

If we lived closer, I would offer to watch over the chickens for you. I am quite anal about how they are taken care of; I do not leave them unattended, morning or night, until I see that there is peace and safety within the flock. Is your chosen coop-caretaker already a chicken tender? 😊

Oh my gosh, so kind of you to take some of your free time at the National to take pics for us! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU❤️. I do have two requests. Serama and aseel/shamo. I know you're just as bantam obsessed as me, so I'm expecting many bantam photos as well, but that's more generic
