Chat room for non religious poultry keepers! :D

One of the things was brand new, completely unopened, so I feel bad throwing it away cause maybe my dad would’ve taken it but he already has a million of this thing lol plus I needed to just GET RID OF IT asap. So yeah. I don’t regret it. Let’s just say both things I threw out are dangerous.

Yeah, that's the tough part! Narrowing them down to three is better than nothing, though, right?

Yeah. Still unsure, but we shall see. Ducks eat A LOT compared to chickens.

I don't know if this is the same with ducklings so take this with a grain of salt, but recessive white chicken chicks can be deceptively dark-colored at hatch, anything from just a tinge of gray on their backs up to being a smoky gray color overall that still feathers out pure white.

Yeah, never base a chick's (or duckling's!) final colour on their down colour! I've found this especially true with the chickens though. Ducks, at least the Muscovy, are a bit better. Probably because I don't have any super-crazy colours to begin with. Wish I did though! Some of those gene combinations are amazing!

Very much so! I'm trying to breed them toward the standard, which requires hatching as much as possible and narrowing it down to the very best. The hard part is the narrowing down. 😅 I also keep getting ghosted when people message me inquiring about my extras, which is disheartening. I really don't want to process these babies, but I just don't have the room for all of them once the snow starts flying, so I have limited options there. 😩

If you were closer I'd take a few off your hands. But then again, I need more birds like I need another hole in my head! 🤪 I'd love to get some standard Cochin one day.

It's sad that it's come to this with ghosting and no-shows. For all the good it's done, I still think the internet and social media have been more detrimental on us than not. Especially social media. It's taught us that we don't have to be accountable for what we say. :(

Not sure how young you're talking with them, but have they been on medicated chick starter by any chance? Weakness in the legs can be a sign of a B vitamin deficiency, which medicated starter can cause. You could try getting them a B-vitamin complex and see if that improves their leg strength. :fl

They're full grown, from this Spring. I don't use medicated feed at all. I should still have some Vit B complex around here somewhere, that I sometimes use for the ducks. Doesn't hurt to try!

Ugh, horrible weather today. It's COLD and it's WET. At least it's rain and not the horrible white stuff. Wish I had nice insulating fur or feathers to keep me warm.
