6 were clear, 1 bloodring, and 3 quit around day 18... dunno what happened, but surprised that 2 Seramas even hatched when the Sebrights didn't make it...

Wow I have no idea. It must have been rough handling by USPS, I don't know what else. They hatch super good every time I set them here. About 90% hatch average.

I have no doubt it was the shipping, I've got great hatches from my own, but shipped ones are either great or not... it's the gamble we take... I was just surprised that of the 2 types it was Seramas that survived, lol... tough pair, too... popped right out running... :)

People have been talking about "Lockdown" a lot. What is that?

About three days before the due hatch date, you put it into lockdown. This means you raise the humidity, stop the automatic turning if you have it, lay the eggs on their sides if they were upright, and firmly close the incubator up, not to open it back up until the hatch is finished. Opening the incubator during hatch lets the humidity escape, which can cause chick deaths.

I hatched some chicks about two weeks ago (my first hatch) and left them sitting upright. Got 11 of 13 to hatch that were viable at 7 days. Was that not the correct thing to have done? They were store bought brown eggs from the refrigerated egg department from a market in Oakland (Joe's Farmer's Market). I was kind of surprised any hatched since I didn't know how fresh or long they had been refrigerated or how they had been handled. The packages said "Fertile Brown Eggs". All the chicks came out a beautiful yellow and healthy. Kern

If they hatched that good, you did fine, whatever you did.
