Chat Thread for the New Crazy 24 hour Auction

Okay, I've been watching the auctions and the egg sales with interst (as a future breeder) and here are my two cents.

1. Coolness counts - although I love my layers, they are standard feed store birds (Orps, Lorpes, EEs, RIRs, etc) and my roo is a non SOP BCM. If I mix them up, well, not all that interesting.
2. Uniqueness Counts - I've grown to despise the word "rare." Greenfire's newest imports are the only rare birds in this country. What we do in our backyards is work on uniqueness (and coolness, see observation#1). I, like so many on this site, love a unique bird, its genetic heritage, and how it will uniquely function in my own yard.
3. Purebred is third, because if it can't be cool or unique, it should at least have two of the same breed parents.

And, can I do a #4? Okay!
Reputation is huge on BYC. Selling beautiful, fertile, healthy eggs, very well packaged earns you a good reputation, which then earns you some liberty in what breeds you will make #1 and #2 on the previous list!

Good observations here, but I beg to differ on the highlighted point. There are many heritage breeds that are on the critically endangered or endangered list that were not imported by Greenfire Farms. Of course, many of those do not show up on these threads. As for Greenfire's breeds, you will most likely find much better quality from those who purchased from GFF and have done the hard work of improving the stock, rather than just hatching as many as they can and selling everything that hatches, regardless of quality. (Not a fan of GFF... can you tell?) Just because it seems that many people in the U.S. have them, does not necessarily disqualify them as rare. The numbers of many are still relatively low. Really good examples of the many imported breeds are still indeed rare.

@rossfam06 heres the exact eggs you won from your auction, I collected and candeled them today and they look great!!! Some are Jumbo size, I will spot clean them if youd like or not thats up to you. Good luck with hatching, cant wait to see those babies!!!

I agree with this. I will use Swedish flowers for example. I still consider them rare. You do not see them everywhere, but if you do a quick Google search you can turn up quite a few results, and even harder to find are good examples of the breed. Same thing with svart hona, ayam cemani, etc. They are rare still in my eyes, and even rarer in good quality.

Wording does play a big part in what makes a auction/sale but it's the product that counts.

I'm going to do another bantam assortment auction tomorrow, ending Sunday, for Monday shipping.

I keep getting ready to list Brown leghorns and Isabel Leghorn eggs but then they will stop laying just before I get a 12 plus order
