What is it?

DE (Diamectious or something like that, earth) is fabled on this fine web establishment as being hard to find, expensive, and is the best thing you could ever spend your money on for your coop.

DE will kill mites, absorb moisture, and the chickens love to take dust baths in it!

It will also reduce ammonia, smells, and other little beasties that haunt your chicken coop.

To find this wonderful product...

Go to your local Tractor Supply. Purchase a 10-25 lb. bag of Stall Dry (for horses) for less than 15.00. Be happy.

P.S. Many people are mail ordering this wonderful product, but why spend $50.00 for something so readily available and cheap?

Happy DE Hunting!

PS. I forgot to add that it is specified for horses and chickens, and in the ingredients it plainly says Di-a-whatever earth in the ingredients, along with clay.

DE is Dematious Earth. It is like the stuff you can use for your pools. But you would have to use a different type for poultry.

Stall Dry is perfect for the bedding and such, but if you want to mix some in with the food you have to get the food grade DE. Use the cheaper stall dry for the bedding, and the food grade DE for food and you are set!

When I ask the feed stores in my area about DE, they look at me like I am crazy. I had one point blank tell me I didnt' want it. I told him I did and explained the benefits and he says if you don't have a problem, why do you want to use it. I explained I wanted it for preventive measures and they just shake their heads. I don't have a lot of money for shipping so I think I will try some stall-dri this winter and see if it helps. Thanks!

Yes...but what is the cost of shipping ???? I live in MA...called a place in VT...was almost $40.00 just to SHIP it....never mind the cost to buy.
I've given up on finding it. Good luck
