Cheap Coop.

I'll throw out another place to look for cheap or free supplies: if your neighborhood has a "Buy Nothing" group (ours is on Facebook), you will often find people are delighted to clear out some space in a garage when you ask for some roofing materials or random wood. It's on you to be prompt to pick up, and there are not guarantees, but it's a great resource to keep in mind.

I love shopping at my local dump. There is a demolition pile loaded with suitable coop materials, and they don't allow treated lumber in the demo pile.

There is also a section where people put supplies such as old windows and cabinets that they don't want, no one will really pay for, but are too nice to be trashed. I built all my cold frames for my garden using windows from the dump.

The scrap metal pile sometimes has welded fencing, old swing sets (makes a great frame for a coop or tractor), dog kennel panels or chain link fence, and bbq grills, wagons, and lawnmowers with the wheels attached. Score!

Shopping at the dump is a great pastime. Just be sure to ask first. You can even ask them to let you know when things get dropped off. People already paid to get rid of it. The county usually doesn't care if you take. Costs them less than having to deal with it.

If dump shopping isn't an option, check the free section on Craig's list or put a wanted ad on there.

Sorry it took me so long to reply, we went and got our first DUCKS:love! But anyway, I am needing the coop pretty soon, maybe in the next 2 or 3 weeks. I live about 30 minutes from Mcalester, OK so not far out.

If you have an immediate need for something ... and you can't find something used, etc, a hoop coop is probably your most economical choice.

I have attached photos of the one I built this passed winter from pallets and scraps I brought home from work. Pallets are great.

I spent more on the automatic door than the coop. Lol.
