Cheaper alt. to hardware cloth?

The best thing I found that is predator proof, small diameter and galvanized is stucco lath...much much cheaper than hardware cloth..a piece is 27'high by 8foot long and is only about $6...you can find it in the building material section in HD or Lowes...you can look at the pics on my page to see our run and coop...

Now that's a fascinating idea; using stucco lath. I'm going to price that at my local big box store this weekend. Thanks for the suggestion.

We've had our hens for about year now. We've used the green plastic hardware stuff as a temp run. hens are locked up at night and let out only when we are home to supervise. Overwintered 'okay' except snow and ice weighed it down and we had to repair it once or twice. We are ready to have a more permanent kind of run now.

Sorry, but there's nothing cheaper than a one-time investment in 1/2-inch hardware cloth when it comes to your peace of mind and the safety of your chickens, especially if you're not home 24/7.  See My BYC Page.
Couldn't agree more. I wasn't please forking over the cash for the hardware cloth, but I do not worry about predators knowing that my girls are well protected with a strong wire and locked up well.
