Cheerios?

When feeding as a treat to chicks, should I crumble them or not?? My chicks are 3+ weeks old.

The chiks snatch them and then run around trying to find a hiding spot to eat the cheerio. When they feel safe, they'll bang it repeatedly in the soft wood shavings- trying to break it....very entertaining...
