My chick was fine on minute
Next he was struggling to breathe
Opening and closing mouth to breathe
Sneezes sometimes like snot or something comes out sometimes

Beathing is raspy

Wondering if me giving him water in a syringne has anything to do with it??

Will be be okay after a while

You may have squirted the water down the wrong pipe which can kill him. Why are u giving him water that way?

I'm sorry about your baby. And based on what you have described as well as other posts you made, sounds a lot like Infectious coryza. Did any of your chicks that got sick and passed away have a strong smell? Like rotten chicken? Here are the symptoms:

Swollen face or wattles, gunky eyes, foul odor, more common
summer and fall.

Infectious Coryza in Poultry. Infectious coryza, which is also referred to as a cold or roup, is caused by the bacterium Haemophilus paragallinarum. This disease primarily affects chickens, but quail and pheasants may also be affected. There is an antibiotic you can give, but once a chicken gets this they will remain a carrier. And will pass this infection onto other hens and chicks. So your gonna end up giving a shot of Tylan 200 to any bird that appears to have this. Sadly the best thing to do would remove the hen from the others and watch for signs in the rest.

The best way to fight this infection on the upper respiratory system is by using Tylan 200.This is an injectable medication. It is found at Tractor Supply or about anyfeed and grain type stores, for about $32for a large bottle that will treat many a many chickens. I personally came acrossed our white leghorn while doing wing clipping, and she smelled horrible. Like she was dead. Even though she was not dead. And we chose to put her down, I didn't want to use antibiotics and I didn't want the rest of my flock getting sick. Hopefully you can get this under control and won't lose anymore. Hopefully this helps you, I know you lost one of your favorites and I'm sorry. Good luck

Also I want to give credit to the person and site I found when dealing with this and some of the info I used can from this persons post. Here is the link: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/help-i-have-infectious-coryza-in-my-flock.426882/

Hi thank you so much.
By the time that I wrote this my chick was dying, he died last night peacefully.
Yes i think you are right that he had a 'cold' type thing.
He was fine one second and the next he was coughing and sneezing, poor baby.
Anyway he passed away and I buried him today.

The other chickens I have lost dont have the same thing. You see when oone is ill, I isolate them immedietly so no one else gets ill. It works!
The others died from eating glass (even though i picked it alll up every day)
one from a severe scissor beak, died because he couldnt eat no more.
and the others to infections and such. especially Mareks.

Its okay now, I am now on a journey to help as many people as I can.
And i will do it all for Sid.

Sounds like you "Got This"!

The first thing noticed with the one we lost was the stinch. She didn't have other symptoms yet. And since my step daughter picked her out, we explained the problem and the actions we could take. But when we explained that even after treatment she would be a carrier and still get the others sick she said " dad I don't want the others to get sick and have to have shots" she is 12. And she made a very adult choice that not many young girls could do.

Since we put the leghorn down, I watched for signs in the others and have not seen any signs. And that was about two weeks ago.

How many hens, chicks, roosters do you have?

You have confirmed Mareks on your property?

What harm would a bit of water gojng the wrong pipe do??
He seems kind of okay

He doesnt drink water by himself
But maybe i agve him too much
Aspirating water can be fatal. Water does not belong in the respiratory system. Even just a drop or two can kill a young chick. To 'teach' a chick to drink, you dip the beak in the water and let them swallow on their own.
