Re home them now BSL are LOUD

How do you know they are BSL, and not (for example) Cuckoo Marans? (in which case they could be female)
I'm just trying to learn here

From the white spots on the heads of the male chicks, this is a black sex-link trait. I’m guessing they sent them free because they couldn’t sell them

But head spots just mean they are barred.
So they could be male sex links, or they could be a breed where both male and female are barred.

Like in this photo of Cuckoo Marans, both the chicks with head spots are female.
The one without is actually a black copper, also female.
(I'm not saying the OPs chicks are the same as these, this is just an example)

That is true, I was going mostly by the fact that they appear to be solid black (except the spot), and one has no spot.
There will be ways to confirm once they get older
