Chick broke out on wrong side - Another UPDATE: Post# 57

Well right or wrong, we added water. Working as a team, DH and I got warm/hot water in and the top back on in 10 seconds, max.
Since I was in there....I turned green baby's egg just a tad to the right, so the hole is now off the bottom of the bator. It now has it's beak out and is peeping it's head off.

The other egg hasn't made any progress in a several hours. I hope it's just resting.

Maybe the boost of humidity is what they needed.

Both babies are working hard now to get out. They have good-sized holes pecked in their shells now and are peeping their little hearts out.

Since this is our first time hatching and it was Keith's idea to even try right now, we're not measuring it. We've just kept an eye on the reservoir to make sure it never got too low. We've trusted the excellent reputation of the brinsea to do the rest.
The two eggs that aren't hatching is not the brinsea's fault. Just some of the brahmas seem to have really porous eggs, for whatever reason; perhaps their age.

While the others are resting could they possibly be absorbing the yolk before zipping, I have heard plenty of stories of chicks pip and chirp out of no where, then get still and quiet for 3-16 hours then out of no were they start to zip,Because it takes a lot of energy to pip.

It's quite possible. One egg I am 99% certain is not going to hatch. It didn't look good the last time I candled it, right before lockdown, but it didn't smell and it wasn't seeping, so I left it in. One egg I tossed right before lockdown because I was sure it wouldn't hatch. It was from one of my meaties and although my little roo tries his best, he just can't make ends meet on those big girls.

If I end up with 3 out of the remaining 4 or even 2 out of the four I'll be very happy. My broody has two so far and she gets these bator babies tomorrow night.
