It's quite possible. One egg I am 99% certain is not going to hatch. It didn't look good the last time I candled it, right before lockdown, but it didn't smell and it wasn't seeping, so I left it in. One egg I tossed right before lockdown because I was sure it wouldn't hatch. It was from one of my meaties and although my little roo tries his best, he just can't make ends meet on those big girls.
If I end up with 3 out of the remaining 4 or even 2 out of the four I'll be very happy. My broody has two so far and she gets these bator babies tomorrow night.
what breed is he???
He's a turken (naked neck). We were looking at creating the world's first self-plucking meat bird.
I had my humidity take a nosedive yesterday and realized I had lost one. 3 more where struggling. I got hot water and opened the bator, poured into my resevoirs and pulled the eggs out. After pealing the eggs back on two and getting them out I started pealing the 3rd and had to soak it a little with a warm rag. This morning it still has a little of the membrane stuck to it but it is up and drinking and pecking its sibs.
I am very tempted to help this second one out. It's been trying for about 20 hours now, making slow progress. It now has a hole about an inch and a half long, 1/8th of an inch wide. Looks like the membrane is starting to dry out and it's broodermate keeps kicking it up against the side of the incubator.
Really we aren't supposed to intervene... but if it were me, I probably would too. Just make sure to have moisture, even if by using a warm wet wrag. Poor little baby. I it gets out, or that you can help it. Good luck! keep us posted!
