Chick can’t close beak-help!

I think there was an injury to the lower beak. She is looking a bit better. Not on death’s door like before. I gave her some watered down egg yolk for nourishment and will continue with the nutridrench.

I don’t want to prolong her pain and suffering though if this is hopeless. I can take care of her if she has a chance to recover. Does anyone have any words of wisdom? Thanks so much for all of your help and guidance.

I really recommend bee propolis. It won't hurt her to try it.

A quick look showed Vitamin Shoppee as carrying it. Pill or liquid form. Either would work. Neither will taste very good. LOL You may have better luck with the powder, getting it to stay on the lump but if liquid is all they have I'd get it.
If you don't have a Vitamin Shoppee look for a natural/holistic store. GNC does not show it in their website.

I agree, looks a bit odd.

@SaMable can you get a flash light and really inspect that line under the beak and the tongue very well. I wonder if your chick has a long hair or piece of string wrapped around the tongue and beak - would not be the first time something like that happened, especially the tongue.

It's possible the beak is broken, but it would be good to re-check. Get someone to hold her for you so you can probe around a little.

• It was a string!!! Oh my gosh, I used tweezers to try to pull at the black line and I was afraid I was hurting her. I got hold of it right at the middle under her beak and pulled it up and over her beak. But! She quickly swallowed it before I could try to pull it out. Both ends were inside of her. I’m not going to try to dig it out because it’s long gone.
