Chick died in pip

So I have 7 hatched (one with a bloody bit where the umbilical cord was that sorta budges out) and 2 dead ones since the first dead one. I think the first just pipped in the wrong spot and didn’t hit the air sack. Another was like that with a pip hole but then blood and not by the air hole. And then one has died zipping It was so close but you can see the membrane covering one nostril and I assume the other nostril covered by something else.

So I have 2 left I can see breathing in the pip holes.

This is enjoyable but I’ll be happy when it’s done! Not sure hatching is for me!

I'm sorry it has been so difficult! If you decide to try again I would recommend getting a secondary calibrated thermometer/hygrometer and aim for much lower humidity. This isn't your fault, it takes experience to find an incubators humidity sweet spot!

The little navel herniation you're describing can be from too high of humidity preventing proper egg weight loss or too high of temperature. Hopefully if it's small enough the chick will finish absorbing that little bit but if not I would recommend dabbing the area with triple antibiotic ointment without pain reliever, or if you happen to have it, my preference is chlorhexidine because it's gentle but doesn't leave the stickiness that the ointment does. I'm also careful to keep the brooder extra clean anytime that a chick has a questionable navel because it leaves the chick open to possible infections.

My first hatch was a catastrophe, under a broody hen. I thought for sure I would never hatch another chick again but now I have multiple incubators and all of them are full. It can be very rewarding once you know what to expect! Fingers crossed for the rest of your hatch!

How do I keep clean without keeping opening and closing the little windows? I still have 2 with pip holes and I don’t want them to shrink wrap.
