Does anybody get purebred baby chicks and raises them until a month or so then sells them for more? Just trying to find ways to make a little extra cash while having fun! Also, what is the longest to keep your chicks in a brooder?

someone posted the math for this recently and it kind of depends how cleverly you do it.
If you are not careful you can end up spending more on their heating, food and bedding than you can make back in profit from selling them 6 weeks later.
The more you can raise the more profitable they become. With 10 chicks which take 2 months to raise for arguments sake you might be able to make $5 profit per chick and that is if you are clever with how to keep them. If you just buy a generic heat lamp and a box like most people raise their chicks then you will hardly make a profit. Big farms can make a profit because they heat thousands of chicks together. The food is actually very cheap per chick.
Lets say you do heat as efficiently as you possibly can and are able to make $5 per chick every 2 months, you could make $300 per year. That might just cover a new coop for them.
So yes sell some to keep them as pets but don't expect to make a big profit with just a few birds.
If you had a farm with 1000 chicks you could probably make $7 per chick and that works out as $42,000 per year. So you see the difference. Considering the mess they will make you'll have to weigh this one up if it is worth it. The people that love chickens will say yes, the people getting chickens for extra income during the pandemic will find they are in over their head.
