I have a 10 day old EE who suddenly is very sleepy and lethargic. She has struggled with pasty butt for a few days, i cleaned her bum a few times daily and finally did Vaseline two days ago. She hasnt had any problems with the pasty butt since.

But i have witnessed her eatting and drinking yesterday. And one minute she is standing kinda puffed up and the next she is laying still and the other chicks are trampling her. I pick her up and she goes limp and closes her eyes.

I decided to bring her in and seperate her from the others. I did bring in one other baby to keep her company. I was able to get her to drink some water by dipping her beak in. But since then she has been laying still in the little container.

All the chicks are on purina medicated start and grow. They havent been given any treats and their brooder is nice and warm and clean.

Also her poos look pretty normal (see pic)

Any ideas? I have never had a problem with chicks in the past, but this is also my first batch of EEs hatched at home, also firat batch this early in the year (it still hitting 20s at night).

i would try to give her some booster snacks and electrolytes, it could perk her up and give her more energy. some scrambled egg, raw egg yolk, or plain yogurt are good for them. also, adding some nutri drench to her water is good too, it has lots of vitamins that could help her feel better. if you don’t have any on hand, sugar water has worked for me.
i would just check on her pretty frequently ( i did it every 30 minutes with a weak duckling in the past) and try to get her to eat or drink from a syringe if she isn’t doing it on her own.
i hope she feels better soon :)

Yeah i gave her some mashed eggs mixed with some ACV and some watered down chick food. She only ate a little. I also had to get her to drink by holding it up to her beak. I have her in my living room and checking on her constantly. Her "roommates" i think are helping wake her and keep her moving. She just falls asleep even with her face in the food dish.

Ill try the sugar water too! Thank you!

of course, let me know how she does!

Little Egypt passed away last night 😭. Not sure what happened. I am gonna sanitize the brooder today, but its possible she was just weak. Comparing her to the other babies she was not as developed yet and was a little smaller. First chick Ive ever lost, so its a sad day :(

Oh, so sorry!! You did the best you could for her.

Ok, now I have another in the same boat. Totally fine this morning. Checked on them about an hour ago and she was on her back splayed out. I wonder if they are getting trampled?!?! I have a two part brooder where there is a hot box and then a huge open area. I just kicked them out of the hot box and turned on the lamp over a wider area of the brooder in hopes this stops happening!

Oh no.. the pictures looks similar to what happened to my chick. She passed away too....View attachment 2593521
Oh my, i am soo sorry for your loss!! 😭
Idk whats going on!! I just lost another this morning from a new batch. She was 6 days old. Fine yesterday morning, puffed up and standing alone last night. I brought her in, she drank some honey water and seemed ok. Then found her dead this morning. Same position as the other two, flat and splayed out on her belly with legs back. All these chicks have been from a new rooster i just started breeding this year. I wonder if its genetics or something else. I have done the same thing i did as i have last year as far as feed, heat, bedding, etc... Last year i didnt loose a single chick.
