hi, I am new here.
My chick has hatched on 22nd day, it took a good 24 hours since pipping to hatch.
It now stays permanently on its back kicking and panting I think.
I do not know what to do. The other 3 chicks that hatched stood upright within an hour.
Can anyone help please?
I read an article by Midwest Farmer that he used a panty hose , made holes and used it as a sling to keep chick upright, but he did not mention if I should leave it in the sling tied to a frame when I am not home so that the chick stay upright 24/7.
Please help! Thanks.

Are the legs far apart? May be splayed. You can use a bandaid to bring them together. When I have to bring legs together, I put some paper towel in the bottom of a cup or short glass to put the chick in. I would do that even though the legs may be fine. Also give the chick both a tiny bit of electrolytes, and a tiny drop of poly v. for a couple of days. Good luck with your baby. :)

You should try some Poultry Cell or NutriDrench a few drops and try to get it drinking. Keep it warm, and try to get it upright.

I have only hatched a few chicks in incubators, and I have seen 1 or 2 like that. They had neurological damage. I tried vitamins and placing them in chick chairs made out of small lined cups to force them upright. Mine never would drink or eat. After 2 days I decided to end their suffering.
My broody hatched chicks have fared much better.

Thank you Cynthia12 and Eggcessive.
Your replies are certainly helpful.
After a further 2 hours, that chick was up, balanced, without any help. It looks like a big one, almost double the size of other chicks.
I hope he hasnt got neurological damage.

Oh! Great news
My guess is then, huge yolk to absorb, and finally did absorb enough to stay on its legs. lol, I've had that happen before.
