Chick vs Cat

At what age can a chicken handle a cat? We have a 14 lb cat, and I'm wondering at what age we can let them free range together.

Your cat free ranges? All cats are different. Some never look at them and others are always hoping for a meal. So it depends on your cat and whether it's well fed. My cat I never worry about because he's lazy and hides all day.

He's a well-fed, 14lbs indoor/outdoor cat (he gets fed plenty, but hunts as well). He wanders our yard if we are home and awake. He has been great with the kids since they were born, never bothered the rare goldfish we've had, but he's caught a bird that got in the house and every lizard he's been able to. (Our other cat might catch a chick at the brooder box stage, but she's a timid kitty.)

Chicks over 8 weeks should be able to get away from him, but you might want to keep an eye out.
